Presiding over many celebrations, meals and just cups of tea the tree had provided shade and a home for Egyptian geese, weaver birds, drongos, orioles and the Knysna Turaco (Knysna Loerie). Thankfully no-one was hurt, and minimal damage caused... just a few squashed chairs and flattened table, but General Manager, Sue Mills reported that there has been a great expression of sympathy from local residents and guests at its loss!
Removing the stump is proving to be a challenge, and a decision is still to be made as to what to plant in its place, but sections of the trunk have been placed around the gardens as a reminder of its presence.
Basking in the beguiling tranquillity of Knysna’s lagoon lies Belvidere Manor, one of South Africa’s most romantic, and most relaxed getaways on the Garden Route.
