Since Portfolio came into existence in 1982, many faces and names have come and gone on the team, each person making a unique contribution to the company. Currently the following talented individuals form the team that makes Portfolio the on-going success story that it is, together with their International Partners:
"Have bag, will travel" Started in the tourism industry in 1977 working for Londolozi Game Reserve, the early pioneering days! Launched Portfolio in 1982 and has been travelling ever since.
Mea lives on the water in Marina da Gama with the real “madam” of the house, Katie the Cat and a host of wildlife neighbours such as ducks and coots. Mea loves travel, gardening, interior decorating and reading (especially SA fiction)
I have two beautiful daughters, both married to very special boys. I love reading - anything from Maeve Binchy to Timothy Zahn, as long as it is a story well told. My two cats are good company, and I love the way they both run up to the car each time I get home.
I have been with Portfolio since 2004 and been in the tourism and marketing industry all my life. I love adventure sports - especially snow skiing, scuba diving and running, which includes half marathons - nothing beats an early morning run in winter before sunrise. I love music, especially classical with Mozart being my favourite composer, and with a passion for singing in choirs and attending classical performances with the cello being my favourite instrument. I am a huge animal and nature lover, especially any baby animals. One of my best nature experiences was tracking black rhino on foot. I am involved with organisations that save and protect animals and our natural environment. My husband and I would like to do humanitarian work in Africa.
Renée has recently joined Portfolio as our KZN assessor. Renée says: 'Having worked in the travel industry for the past 15 years I’ve been fortunate to visit many beautiful and interesting places, but I always love coming home to South Africa. Apart from travelling I love spending time with family and friends, surfing, reading, music…and adventure!'
Wendy’s been with Portfolio since 2004, has two boys, one working all over the world and the other studying Civil Engineering at Stellenbosch. Wendy reads a lot in her spare time and goes to the gym a lot. Cubby the cat rules her house - and Cubby has also starred on the Portfolio Travel Blog.
Caro says: “My first job was as secretary to the Executive Chef at the London Hilton on Park Lane and since then I have been in the tourism and hospitality industry both in England and South Africa. I love time with family and friends but enjoy painting as my solitary hobby.”
Isolde says: “I’ve been married to a scientist for 27 years - yes opposites do attract! I have two very talented boys whom I am very proud of. I am a lover of good food, good music and good wine. Interested in weird and wonderful people who have different views on life. I love babies and I have a special fondness for older people and animals. I would like to write a book about JUST BEING WHO YOU ARE, NOT WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT YOU TO BE. I love living, I love loving, I just love life!
Irene has been with Portfolio for 15 years. She says: “I am an old-fashioned lady who loves to collect sun hats - have quite a collection! Enjoy cooking and make a stunning Indian crab curry. Adore travelling - fell in love with the Greek Ionian Islands 3 years ago, especially Zakinthos, the Greek food and clean blue seas. Meet lots of interesting people when out and about with my job. My hobbies include reading, yoga, Pilates and walking next to the sea in Umdloti where we often spot dolphins and whales. My favourite word is “enthusiasm”.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, it was always my dream to live by the ocean. In 2002 I packed up my little girl and moved to Cape Town and haven’t looked back. These days I’m kept busy with my pre-teen Zoë’s hectic schedule, and my very busy baby boy Max. When the weather is good you can find us on the beach with our dogs. I love reading, cooking, horror movies and going to live music gigs.
Apart from being responsible for the layout of the Portfolio Collection booklet, GPS co-ords and mapping, John has the vital job of feeding and nurturing the earthworms in our onsite earthworm farm at Portfolio’s Newlands Head Office.
Bev has a team of three sporting sons and besides the Website her days are filled with golf, rugby, cricket and hockey!
I have been with Portfolio for 5 years. I am a curious observer of people and how they live their lives and I love communicating with different walks of life. I am a people’s person and I avoid confrontation at all times.
I've been with Portfolio since 2004. My hobbies include reading and cooking. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends especially my husband and son. My sporting activities are softball, indoor netball and action cricket. 'Families are the compass that guide us. I have worked as a chamber maid, house painter, au pair, PA, reservationist, bar maid and wedding planner as well as a freelance copywriter. I am currently the editor of the Portfolio Travel Blog and get to share my passion for the people and places around SA with readers each day, as well as handling Portfolio’s Social Media platforms. I also freelance as a photographer and enjoy portraiture. My biggest adventure to date has been motherhood (my son is 13). My must haves are the ocean, my camera and beer!
I am a Cape Town Web Designer (ZA SiTES) who is currently consulting for Portfolio; assisting with all aspects of Online Marketing. I am also a budding amateur photographer, animal lover, beach goer, traveller and adventurer. I am a BIG fan of local music, real beer, my special family and my amazing friends! And I am a very lucky girl!
Mark has been working on Portfolio’s website since mid-2010. He is passionate about his wife and 2 sons. He loves the outdoors, hockey, windsurfing, surfing and yoga, as well as writing awesome code.
Ed studied Psychology but began his IT career in 2004 working on SafariNow.com and Portfoliocollection.com. After some years of further study, travel, menial labour, and various web development jobs back in Cape Town, he’s recently joined the Portfolio team full time. He enjoys yoga, swimming, good food at regular intervals throughout the day, and he plays percussion with a Celtic-medieval-acoustic-rock band.
Rowan says: “I hardly ever make time for myself (ME time); I usually spend time making things easy for others ...something that’s probably not going to change anytime soon! I love to cycle and I also work out each night with weights and gym equipment I have at home. If I have some spare change in my back pocket I like to purchase a little vintage model car to add to the small collection I have at home and would love to own the real thing one day.
Denise has been with Liz and Portfolio for many years. In her spare time she enjoys taking walks with her baby Dale, now 12 years old. Denise says: “I love a braai - fish braai, meat braai - ANY braai as long as it’s a braai! Denise became something of a local celebrity when her garden was recently transformed on the Fresh Living TV Show.
Dolores is a sports fanatic and enjoys going to soccer matches to support her daughter Meshay (15) who plays for Western Province Soccer. Meshay’s sporting talents were recently spotted and she is proud to have been awarded a 3-year scholarship at the School for Excellence in Kuilsrivier.
Elizabeth is from the Transkei and lives in Khayelitsha with her husband Witness and two sons - Maxin aged 19 and Vincent aged 24, Elizabeth is a regular church-goer.
London takes care of the gardens at Portfolio’s Newlands office. He is also our official “green” brick” maker as he uses a brick making gadget to transform our waste paper into bricks for household and braai fires. London’s creative streak comes out when he uses left-over paper pulp to create little creatures which grace our board-room mantelpiece. In his spare time London loves to cycle.

James has worked in the travel industry in the UK in many sectors & capacities since 1987, and has been involved with tourism to Africa since 1993. James considers himself a 'travel junkie' and unless he has a holiday booked or being planned he feels as though he is going 'cold turkey'. He now travels with his family, encouraging his children to be citizens of the world! James is a founder member of the Africa Collection team (from July 2000) & is a director of the company.
Lee-Anne has been with Africa Collection for 10 years and looks after the finance and accounts. She was born in South Africa and started her travel experience while there and 20 years later is still within the industry. Lee-Anne serves on the committee of SATAO in the capacity of Treasurer and when not in the office is playing 'Mum's taxi' for her 2 children.
Becca started with Africa Collection in September 2004, first joining the company as an administration assistant she grew a passion for web management and is now part of the website team managing the ever growing website and handling the on-line enquiries. Becca's main interests are travelling and having visited many countries, she feels Southern Africa is still at the top of her list.
Wendy is one of the new members of the Africa Collection team, working in the finance department since March 2010. Bought up in Singapore in her early years, she followed in her parent’s footstep and worked within the airline industry, previously working for Continental Airlines for 19 years based at Gatwick Customer Service Admin role. Being fortunate to explore the globe travelling to Australia, Mexico, North Africa to mention a few. I have yet to experience the wonders of Southern Africa, this is on my to do list!
South African born and bred, Chris has lived and worked in the UK Travel Industry since 1994. He loves travelling, sport, fishing, cooking (especially hosting braai's where he and his faithful tongs can be found in all weather!!), all accompanied by another of his passions, fine wines! Chris is married with three children, which although chaotic at times keeps him young! Chris is a founder of Africa Collection and enjoys the dynamic nature of the travel industry as a director of the company.
Brad has worked for Africa Collection since October 2005. Born in South Africa he managed an upmarket Lodge in the Battlefields region for 5 years before moving to the UK.At Africa Collection Brad is part of the reservations team and is also responsible for Travel Agent Sales calls throughout the UK. Brad has a passion for travel and having travelled to many different destinations around the world he truly believes South Africa offers the 'World in One Country'!
Laura joined Africa Collection in January 2008. Initially fulfilling an admin role Laura quickly decided that she wanted to get more involved in the reservations side of the business and has now been part of the reservations team since 2009. When not working Laura enjoys active outdoor pursuits such as skiing & snowboarding, travelling generally & the company of friends and family (who know her as 'Big Mamma'). In 2012 she is hoping to climb Mount Kilimanjaro!
Amy has always been inspired by wildlife, the outdoors and travel. After travelling across North America , she settled into her studies of Nature Conservation and Hotel Lodge Management, which led to her managing a small lodge in Zululand as well as working within a 5 star Game Lodge in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve. Having lived in the UK for almost 8 years - Amy recently joined Africa Collection after being brought across with the Destinations for Africa business.
One of South Africa’s great tourism marketing gurus, Herbie Rosenberg started his career in tourism at Sabi Sabi in the early 1980s, and put it firmly on the global map. Herbie relocated to Australia last year to join his family including 3 grand children who have settled there, and is now representing a “Portfolio” of the best products in Africa - including The Portfolio Collection of course. Herbie’s other clients are Wilderness Safaris, Great Plains Conservation, Legacy Hotel Group, Legend Lodges and Resorts and Bateleur Eco Safaris.
John was born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, and has lived in the US for half his life. Travelling back to South Africa annually keeps him connected to home and up to date with happenings in the tourism markets. John distributes the Portfolio Collection brochures in the US market and is available to assist with questions at any time. 'I’m passionate about Southern Africa, and if my business didn't get me home each year, well I might just have to move back!'. 'Living in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina offers so many wonderful activities'.
