Hearty hospitality, unforgettable food and tranquillity are the hallmarks of Cap Serein Guest House. Set high on the slopes in a private setting overlooking the fishing harbour of Hout Bay in Cape Town, the only noise you will encounter is the chirping birds and the occasional splash from the Koi ponds. Hosts Petra and Kurt are true experts in hospitality, they have both run restaurants and Kurt is a certified Master Chef. A superb cooked breakfast in the sunroom and a selection of home-baked pastries start your day. A three-course dinner is offered and you could be tempted with local Cape Malay cuisine, seafood fresh from Hout Bay Harbour, Thai curry or perhaps something quintessentially French. Traditional South African cookouts such as a braai or potjie can also be arranged, and the African boma in the garden is the perfect place to enjoy them. Fine picnic baskets available.
The rooms at Cap Serein are all great hideaways too. Each is decorated in its own unique style, and the detached Marseille cottage is an ideal option for longer stays with private access, as well as its own terrace, living room and study area. Styled with a contemporary feel and modern décor, there’s a king-size bed, a double shower, fireplace, mini bar and hot beverage facility, underfloor heating and heated towel rails. Marseille also has German satellite TV in addition to DSTV channels.
The shady garden is full of nooks and crannies, with plenty of corners where you can lose yourself in a good book with only the koi fish and the owls for company. Hidden pathways meander between the bluegum, lemon and olive trees. There is a stunning and sunny pool terrace, where you can sunbathe and cool off while enjoying views of the ocean, Hout Bay harbour, the renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive and even the Kommetjie Lighthouse on a clear day.
