DESCRIPTION

Privately owned and operated, Makweti is a prime malaria-free destination for the true safari connoisseur in search of diverse wildlife and a Big 5 experience.

The main lodge is built from natural rock with teak decks overhanging the dramatic Makweti Gorge. Rare African art, antique furnishings, rich woods, leather and woven textures create a homely elegance. Secluded stone and thatched chalets are stylishly decorated and offer the luxury of an escape from a busy world.

Indoor and outdoor showers, Victorian bathtubs, log fires and viewing decks, some with private plunge pools make this a popular honeymoon destination.

Twice daily safaris in open vehicles or on foot combine a landscape experience with game viewing of over 16 species of antelope, plains game, lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo and the rare brown hyena. Watch game at the waterhole from the luxury of the Indaba deck.

Savour gourmet cuisine under the stars in the boma or in a candlelit dining room, whilst sipping an estate wine from the cellar.

Makweti is a relaxing and romantic wildlife retreat. Scheduled flights, to an airstrip within the reserve, or an easy 3-hour drive from Johannesburg.

This region forms part of the Waterberg Biosphere, declared a Natural Heritage Site.

LIMPOPO MAP

Limpopo is bordered to the North by Rudyard Kipling's "great grey greasy Limpopo River". Wide open spaces, dramatic mountain ranges and sacred lakes create a diverse province which is home to the Venda, North Sotho and Tsonga peoples, and the legendary Prester John and mystical Rain Queen "Modjadji" who have been the inspiration for more than one novel. The famous "upside down" Baobab tree is found to the north, and the Northern section of the world famous Kruger National Park is a wildlife mecca. The Waterberg, Soutpansberg and Magoebaskloof offer hiking trails, waterfalls and crystal clear pools. Malaria-free game viewing in the Waterberg.
