Samara Karoo Lodge

Game lodge / Country house - Karoo Lodge with 9 Rooms

  • All Ages Welcome
  • TGCSA 5 Star
  • TGCSA Lodge

This is a step into the colonial world of days gone by. The vibe on the reserve is quiet and tranquil - 28 000 hectares of open Karoo space was an utter tonic to the soul, as I relaxed into in slow mode. Great personal attention… every visit I have made there has been most memorable.

From Port Elizabeth Airport

Exit the airport and at the traffic circle turn right.

Following the signs to Grahamstown on N2.

Travel on this road for 1,5 km until you reach an intersection where you will turn left - 500 m further on you will get to another turning circle where you will turn right onto Michelle Street.

About 500 m down you will get to a set of traffic lights, at the traffic lights turn right into Walmer Boulevard.

Continue along this road keeping left and turn left at traffic lights following signs to N2 Grahamstown.

Continue along the freeway for approximately 6 km and then take the off-ramp numbered 751A marked Cape Town N2.

Follow the N2 and take the off-ramp numbered 748 marked Uitenhage R75.

At the top of the off-ramp you must turn right at the second set of traffic lights. This will take you onto the R75 traveling towards Uitenhage/Graaff Reinet.

Follow signs toward Graaff-Reinet by-passing Uitenhage.

Continue along the R75 towards Graaff-Reinet for 258 km.

Approximately 20 km before Graaff-Reinet you will encounter a turn off to the right marked Blue Crane Route - R63 Pearston/Somerset East.

This is a tar road (do not confuse with the gravel road also marked Pearston).

Take this turn off and keep going for 7 km until you see signs to Samara.

Turn left onto the gravel road and follow the signs up to Karoo Lodge.

This is approximately 23 km on gravel roads.

From Port Elizabeth City centre

Either get on to the N2, and take the R75 Uitenhage off-ramp or get on to the Uitenhage Road, R75, which runs through the CBD.

Once on the R75, follow the directions as above.
