Sue, Gordon and the team are so hospitable and friendly; it’s like being welcomed into their home, which just happens to be in the Big 5 Madikwe Reserve. Thrilling game drives and dramatic landscapes. Their underground hide on the edge of a waterhole is a unique and voyeuristic experience.
About The Bush House
The Bush House is your home away from home. A place to kick off your shoes and unwind in Big Five country, just less than four hours drive from Johannesburg. Set in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, this old farmhouse has been lovingly transformed into an inviting and relaxing residence.
A large shaded garden with a rock pool is the perfect spot to relax between game drives, as animals come to drink at the waterhole. An exciting new addition is the underground hide that borders on the very edge of the waterhole, with spectacular views of animals and birds at extremely close quarters.
Every meal is an occasion, whether a dinner in the boma under the stars or afternoon tea in the garden. As an owner managed lodge, Sue, Gordon and their friendly team ensure a warm welcome and a relaxing safari experience.

Travelling by road from Johannesburg to Madikwe
Travelling time approximately 3,5hrs. From Johannesburg head north on the N1 towards the N4 Toll Road. Take the N4 Toll road north west towards Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust.
Once in Zeerust turn right at the third stop street into President Street. There is a signpost on the left that says “ Madikwe Game Reserve / Gaborone” and a First National Bank on the corner to the left. Follow the R49/47 towards the reserve for approximately 95 km. The first entrance to the reserve is Abjaterskop gate. Pass that gate and enter at the next gate – Wonderboom Gate exactly 7 km from the first gate.

"My husband and I wanted to treat his parents to a true safari experience for their upcoming 80th birthdays; our stay was wonderful and the service exceptional; if circumstances allow, they hope to return for a second visit in 2013!"
