We loved the high altitude fresh air and the sweeping views down over Addo. Zuurberg has an old world charm and Henri and his team look after us in a way that is often missing in modern hotels. The food was excellent – I’m just sorry we weren’t around for the traditional Sunday carvery! Our day spent exploring Addo was a highlight – the girls saw so many different animals and birds. Zuurberg is ideally located as a base for day adventures into Addo.

About Zuurberg Mountain Village

Located high up on the Zuurberg Pass in Addo, Zuurberg Mountain Village is in a beautiful setting with sweeping views of the Addo Elephant Park. This charming country hotel is encompassed by beautiful gardens and offers the leisure or corporate traveller an excellent base from which to explore the region. The original manor rooms offer guests the comfort and space to unwind and relax. The Zuurberg Manor is the original part of the hotel dating back to 1861 and comprises 9 spacious rooms, 5 of which are family suites. Each room has a full bathroom with shower and bath, mini bar and private patio with views of the beautiful gardens. Conveniently situated near the lounge, dining areas and the swimming pool, the manor rooms will encourage you to break free from your busy routine and soak up the beautiful surroundings.

The Lounge, a gracious and high-ceilinged room dominated by an immense stone fireplace with classic indigenous wooden furniture typical of the period. Aperitifs can be enjoyed around a log fire on cool winter evenings. The Cycad, the hotel's main dining area is enhanced by several features - the counter hand-crafted by the 1820 Settlers, fireplaces and French doors leading to the pool where alfresco dining may be enjoyed on balmy summer nights. Woodfields Bar, named after the engineer of the Zuurberg Pass, is one of the few remaining genuine English pubs in the country, where refreshments can be enjoyed in a relaxing atmosphere.

Enjoy a leisurely country breakfast and during the day the Terrace menu is available for light snacks. Zuurberg Mountain Village offers a classic 5-course carvery or table d'hôte. The Zuurberg Mountain Villages traditional Sunday carvery is legendary. Guests still travel from afar to celebrate this gourmet experience.

Hotel leisure facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, kiddies playground area, pool table, game drives, hiking trails, bird watching and horse trails.
