An often unexplored area largely seen as industria-meets-suburbia, the Northern Suburbs have a lot more to offer than you might expect.

There are wonderful beaches for walking, relaxing and kite surfing. Wine estates offer wine tasting in the Boland region.

Tygervalley Shopping Centre and its upmarket sister Willowbridge both offer unparalleled shopping and entertainment opportunities. From December 2008 the Slow Food Market at Willowbridge offers organic foodie treats every Saturday morning.

Bellville

Once used as an outspan by local farmers bringing their produce to Cape Town’s market by ox-wagon, Belville was given city status in 1978 and incorporated into the wider metropolitan area in the 1990s.

Today it is a rapidly expanding, busy city-in-a-city, home to both the University of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsular University of Technology. The Bellville Velodrome is Cape Town’s biggest events venue where most of the mega international bands and singers perform when in Cape Town.

Durbanville

Just 8 km away from Bellville, Durbanville was, previously known as Pampoen Kraal (harking back to its farm roots) before 1836 when the then-Governor Sir Benjamin D’urban gave his name to the tiny settlement. Today Durbanville is probably best-known for its own wine route featuring a number of lush wine farms in the valley.
