St Francis Bay is a delightful seaside resort village on the Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape with a working harbour and pretty thatched housing, in close proximity to Cape St Francis and Jeffrey's Bay - two of South Africa's best known surf spots.

There's plenty to see and do in and around St Francis Bay. The following highlights were suggested by Brisan on the Canals, one of our St Francis Bay establishments.

 

St Francis Bay Highlights

Beaches - Hit the pristine beaches all along this stretch of Eastern Cape coast for world class surfing and paddle boarding. In season you can spot whales in the water. 

Birding - the canal and river mean a wide variety of waders and other birds abound - plenty for the birding enthusiast to train his field glasses onto!

Canal cruises - The pristine tidal canal system winds for 7 km passing magnificent homes and incorporating the Kromme River and Estuary, with its abundant birdlife.  Canal and River cruises operating on a daily basis to suit visitors requirements which include viewing the homes on the canals and river and the beautiful gorges of the Kromme and Geelhout Rivers.  Brisan offers cruises on our 2 pontoon boats from our jetty and trips can include breakfast, lunch, sundowners or dinners. 

Fishing - Boat or landbased fishing opportunities abound along this coastline.

Eat out - There are some wonderful restaurants in St Francis Bay. Recommended:  Five Elements – recently awarded ‘Top Restaurant in Eastern Cape’ offers wonderful personalised service, food par excellence and set in a vineyard and olive grove amid the sand dunes. Try Chez Patrick overlooking Port St Francis Marina for fine food and a deli. If seafood's your thing, Christy’s Catch serves up locally caught fish and calamari.

Golf - There are two excellent golf courses in the village – St Francis Links (Jack Nicklaus course) and St Francis Bay parkland / links. 

Shopping - Billabong and Bruce’s Surf Shops both offer a range of sporty surf style clothing (or pop through to J-Bay for surf factory shops.
