Officially stretching from Tsitskamma to East London, the Eastern Cape’s Sunshine Coast’s name alone makes one want to leave the office and hit the beach. Offering wonderful weather during much of the year, incredible beaches with warm waves, pristine nature and game reserves and easy access to popular destinations such as Addo, the Garden Route, the Wild Coast and the Great Fish River, the Sunshine Coast is a popular holiday destination year round. And yet this stretch of coastline has remained largely unspoiled. If you like your environment non-commercialised and naturally appealing, you can’t go wrong with a visit to the Sunshine Coast.

Two Major Cities: Port Elizabeth - the 5th largest city in South Africa, PE is surrounded by good beaches and has consistently good surfing conditions. Walmer and Summerstrand are two popular PE suburbs. East London - the first major coastal city after Durban if you are travelling south, East London has the 4th largest harbour in South Africa, and the only river port of any significance.

Charming towns & villages: Kenton-On-Sea: a small, serene paradise off the beaten track. Port Alfred: a charming little seaside town with graceful architecture. Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay: timeless, peaceful and appealing coastal villages with penguins, a harbour and excellent surfing. Chintsa / Cintsa is at the borders of the Sunshine and Wild Coasts and a great place from which to explore in all directions.

Amazing beaches: Jeffrey’s Bay is a world renowned surfing hotspot that attracts the world’s best surfers each year to the Billabong Pro. Popular JBay spots include Kitchen Windows, Magna Tubes, Boneyards and Supertubes. Watch whales and play in the sand dunes at untouched beaches such as Maitlands, Seaview, Sardinia Bay and Virgin Bay. Around Port Elizabeth you’ll find 40km of beaches ideal for families, sailing and surfing. Look out for Hobie Beach and Kings Beach, or to surf check out Millers Point and Bluewater Bay. East London’s best beaches include Orient Beach, Eastern Beach, Nahoon Beach and Gonubie Beach. Swim, explore and surf your heart out!
