I was thrilled to see rhino so close up right at the lodge, along with warthog and other passing wildlife. Their rhino conservation efforts are inspiring. We were made to feel welcome and at home, the perfect family safari destination for all ages.

ABOUT Ant's Nest

Ant’s Nest is owned and run by Ant and Tessa Baber, descendants of some of the earliest pioneers in the area who settled here in 1886. This welcoming bush home is located on a 5000 ha private game reserve, nestled in the folds of the magnificent malaria-free Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province. Only three hours drive from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport, and easy to reach via road transfers or private charters.

Lying in a natural amphitheatre, Ant’s Nest is the original homestead of the Baber family, an old colonial ranch house which was renovated in the mid 1990’s. This is a home from home experience where you can enjoy delicious al-fresco dining, ultimate flexibility and a vast variety of safari activities and game viewing. Spot white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, plains game and numerous bird species on guided game walks, game drives and horse riding safaris. With over 90 horses, thrilling game viewing on horseback is a specialty. Nearby excursions include a Big 5 game reserve, elephant back safaris, Bushman paintings and Iron Age sites.

With its wide verandas, Ant's Nest has a classic African atmosphere and a homely warmth using classic furniture fashioned from colourful local fabrics, timber and stone. Six en-suite bedrooms accommodate a maximum of twelve guests. There is a 15 metre heated swimming pool in the garden, and a wonderful thatched chill-out spot with vast sofa beds where you can relax during the heat of the day. A wide variety of game frequent the waterhole in front of the bush home where horses and dogs enjoy the extensive lawns. All ages and individuals, couples, riders, families or groups of friends traveling together are welcome. The incredibly hospitable team will welcome you as a guest and ensure you leave as a friend!
