Lying between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains, only an hour’s drive from Cape Town, Boschendal is a gorgeous Franschhoek oasis and South Africa’s second oldest wine farm. The name Bos-en-dal, or “wood and valley”, reveals its essence: a breathtakingly beautiful valley basin of 1800 hectares.
Various cottages are scattered across the vast expanse and changing landscapes of the property, making your stay a special one. You’ll have privileged access to the farm, enabling you to experience and savour the best of farm living. Join a farm tour or explore the estate on foot, following exciting trails that take you through orchards and mountain fynbos.
There are also mountain biking routes, caves to explore, wine tasting, cellar tours, swimming in the dams and plenty of opportunities simply to sit, read, relax and take in the goodness of life. Multiple family activities are on offer and for children seeking an authentic farm experience, The Tree House offers various activities for ages 4 - 14yrs.
Dine at The Werf Restaurant, The Deli, Rhone Homestead or enjoy a picnic on the grounds. Breakfast or braai baskets can be brought to your cottage for your enjoyment or you can pick up some fresh farm produce at the Farm Shop and Butchery to prepare in your cottage. All cottages have a fully-equipped kitchen and are serviced daily, making them ideal for couples, families or groups of friends.
The latest farm offering is the all-inclusive luxury tented camp experience. Nestled between indigenous fynbos, ancient olive trees and boulders on the side of the Simonsberg mountain, seven beautifully furnished tents look out over Franschhoek, Paarl and the Drakenstein mountain ranges. Disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and spend time reconnecting with nature.
Delectable harvest table spreads and delicious meals are cooked and enjoyed around the fire, using the freshest ingredients, most of which are grown on the farm. Partake in outdoor yoga, guided hikes, swimming, as well as farm and vineyard tours. For the more adventurous, there are mountain bike rentals and guided horse rides (at an additional cost). The floating deck on the lake is truly something special and the ideal relaxation farm spot.
Location, the sheer scale, natural splendour and history make exploring and staying at Boschendal captivating.
