ABOUT Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat

As a member of the prestigious Red Carnation Hotel Collection, it’s no surprise that the stunning and multi award-winning Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat is nothing short of spectacular. Nestled in the foothills of the northern Cederberg Mountains only 270km from Cape Town, it’s an ecological oasis set amongst vast plains and ancient sandstone formations that offers a unique wilderness experience.

16 luxurious and spacious guest rooms and suites are on offer, as well as the exclusive Koro Lodge, a private, renovated and fully-catered villa near the main lodge that is perfect for larger groups. There’s a family suite as well as the exquisite Riverside Supreme Suite which makes for that unforgettable romantic escape. A total of 34 guests can be accommodated, with each space being well-appointed with luxury finishes, personal touches, a range of comforts and impressive art pieces, all of which only enhances this already extraordinary environment.

Quality fare features massively at Bushmans and it’s aptly considered “the home of authentic Cape cuisine”. The organic garden provides the kitchen with the freshest ingredients, which are then treated with the utmost respect to create exciting and mouth-watering dishes enjoyed at the various dining options throughout the lodge. A superb wine list showcasing a variety of South Africa’s finest wines is the ideal accompaniment to any meal and guests are invited to the cellar to make their choice. From romantic picnics, to traditional braais (barbeques), private dining, al fresco eating and the legendary Bushmans high tea, you can expect only the highest of culinary standards.

The natural healing energy often associated with Bushmans is channelled through one of its most defining features: The Spa. Individual treatments using a range of techniques and African ingredients help to restore balance, rejuvenate the senses and leave you feeling pampered. A qualified team of therapists ensure your spa journey is memorable and personal. The outdoor gazebo is simply the cherry on top.

A selection of activities is available, from exploring the beautiful surrounds on nature drives and walks, to tours of the gardens, bird-watching, rock art excursions, hiking, biking, fly-fishing, canoeing, meditation, wine-tasting and much more. There’s something for everyone and if you’d simply like to laze by the pool with a book and drink, that’s possible too.

Bushmans Kloof is a South African National Heritage Site that boasts an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna, including over 150 kinds of birds, 750 plant species and over 35 different mammals. It is also a sanctuary to more than 130 ancient Bushman rock art sites – it’s truly a special place.

Combining the ultimate in luxury with the essence of nature, Bushmans Kloof delivers an experience that invigorates the senses and leaves you feeling rested and relaxed.

DIRECTIONS & MAP

Directions:

From Cape Town

  • Depart Cape Town via the N1.
  • Before Century City / Ratanga Junction, take the N7 off-ramp towards Malmesbury.
  • Continue past Malmesbury, towards Moorreesburg, Piketburg and Citrusdal to enter the Olifants River Valley (route takes approximately 2 hours). We recommend that you stop at Kardoesie (Farm Style Restaurant) for a light lunch just outside of Citrusdal on your right hand side.
  • Pass the Clanwilliam Dam (located on the right hand side of the road) and turn right onto the R364 to Lamberts Bay / Clanwilliam.
  • At the T-Junction, turn right to Clanwilliam.
  • When entering the town, a petrol station is located on the left hand side of road. NB: Fill up if petrol is required and please call the lodge as there is no mobile reception after this point. This will enable the lodge to anticipate your time of arrival.
  • From Clanwilliam to the lodge gate is approximately 40km. Continue straight on the R364 towards Wupperthal and Calvinia and cross a bridge – follow this tarred road for approximately 25km, past ‘Louis Leipoldt’s Grave’ and over the Pakhuis Pass.
  • Cross a low bridge over the Brandewyns River.
  • Continue past a sign on the left hand side to ‘Traveller’s Rest’.
  • After travelling for 800m, the Bushmans Kloof gate will be on your right hand side.
  • Turn right at the Bushmans Kloof gate (recommended speed in the reserve - 40km per hour).
  • Continue straight, crossing a small bridge below the dam wall and follow the signs to the lodge.
  • Continue towards the lodge and on arrival please park your car next to the big Blue Gum trees and the building marked ‘Reception’.
