“Ehlathini”, meaning “in the bush”, seems to be the perfect name for this hidden gem perched high on a hill south west of Marken in Limpopo, a province famous for its baobab trees. Overlooking the lower-lying bushveld north of the majestic Waterberg Mountains in the distance, the lodge is a place of calm and exudes a clear appreciation for Africa and its many wonders.
The main lodge offers three beautifully decorated en-suite and spacious rooms that open onto an outdoor passageway that overlooks the garden, swimming pool and resident water hole with its frequent visitors. Named after famous bush animals, the African ambience is tangible from the moment you walk in. Well-appointed with everything from a mini bar fridge, to tea and coffee facilities, fans and warm blankets for cooler evenings, you’ll have everything you need. Sit back on the terrace while enjoying a drink and taking in the sounds of the birds in the garden.
Self-catering chalets are located a short walk from the main lodge, each with a private patio – the ideal spot from which to admire the natural surrounds and wildlife. A communal, fully-equipped kitchen ensures a hassle-free stay, while the boma area is great for braais or just relaxing in the evenings under vast African skies.
Activities such as game drives, golf, nature walks, bird watching and visits to the nearby town of Lephalale are available or can be arranged, and if you’re up for a day of pampering, the Wild Fig Spa (30 minutes away), offers a range of indulgent treatments.
