ABOUT Ibo Island Lodge

Ibo Islands Lodge in Mozambique is the perfect island getaway…. Imagine a remote island lost in time, almost forgotten to the outside world for nearly a century.

Ibo Island Lodge offers some of the most unique, authentic and luxurious accommodation in Mozambique with a prime waterfront site on Ibo Island in the Quirimba’s Archipelago.

Set amongst lush tropical gardens planted with frangipani, bougainvillea and palm trees the accommodation is stylish yet simple and relaxed. Three swimming pools offer respite from the heat of the day and the Bela Vista lounge lives up to its name with mesmerizing views over the bay making it the perfect place for a sundowner while you snack on cashew nuts, tropical fruit and seafood of every description.

Three historic and magnificent mansions, each over one hundred and fifty years old, have been lovingly restored to their former glory and make up this Mozambique Hotel. The 14 rooms, each with air-conditioning and ceiling fans, are individually designed and feature meter thick coral and lime walls, high ceilings and solid teak beams.

Magnificent scenery and marine life mingle with rich cultures and history that goes back a thousand years. There is a great range of activities to make your Mozambique holiday truly memorable… join a spectacular dhow safari, scuba dive and snorkel along the rich coral reefs, enjoy a castaway beach picnic, guided sea kayaking, birding safaris, a mangrove forest experience. Indulge in a massage or sunbathe on the idyllic white sandbank beaches.

The island is also one of the oldest settlements in Africa and Ibo Island Lodge was built with the community, and your visit will either directly or indirectly benefit a large portion of Ibo’s population. Here your visit really does make a difference.

This is one of the most romantic and atmospheric lodges in Africa and the memories will be sure to stay with you forever.

Garden rooms
4 Units
Our 4 garden rooms are Juwa (sun), Brubuletta (butterfly) Tataruga (turtle) and Makonde (The Makonde tribe is famous for their intricate wood carvings in Northern Mozambique). Once the original trade and storage buildings for the Niassa mansion we rehabilitated these ruins into three spacious twin bedded, air conditioned rooms situated in the garden. Large verandas feature comfortable chairs to soak up the sun and watch the birds that swoop down to drink from the Niassa dip pool which is just a few barefoot steps away. All four garden rooms have en-suite marble showers and twin basins and are popular with groups of friends, families and honeymooners.

DIRECTIONS & MAP

Directions:

You can easily connect to Ibo Island in northern Mozambique from South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. Pemba, is in the Cabo Delgado Province and is the gateway to the Quirimbas Islands – just a short island hop away. There are daily flights from Johannesburg to Pemba and regular flights from Dar – Es – Salaam and Nairobi. At Pemba you will be met by a representative of Ibo Island Lodge who will either escort you directly to the next light aircraft to the island, or to the air-conditioned waiting room for your short flight to Ibo Island.

The light air craft transfer to Ibo is often the highlight. Flying low over the beautiful islands and clear turquoise waters where you can sometimes spot turtles and whales in season. Ibo Island waits hidden just approximately 25 minutes away.
