Karoo Cottage is the epitome of Karoo living and all the joys that come with it. An hour from Graaf-Reinet at the bottom of the slopes of the Sneeuberg mountain range, its backyard is a remote nature reserve waiting to be discovered.
Traditional Karoo life involves spending plenty of time outdoors and in nature, particularly during the summer months. Immerse yourself in the local way as you open all the windows each morning, allowing the breeze to flow through the cottage. Retreat to the covered stoep or the cool inside when the midday heat becomes a little too fierce, where you can relax with a book or magazine – after all, lazy afternoons are what Karoo days are made of.
The endless summer evenings are perfect for extended dinners and conversations, not to mention incredible star-gazing, with the sky being at its clearest in this part of the world.
Warm, sunny days make winter the ideal season for hiking and mountain biking on the various mountain paths or along the river, as well as game drives. Return to the cottage just in time to for lunch, which can always be followed by a lovely afternoon siesta. Once the sun begins to go down, treat yourself to sundowners enjoyed by the light of candelabras as the evening feast is prepared. The raging fire that has been going all afternoon will be the perfect accompaniment to a laid-back, wintry evening.
Karoo Cottage is also just a few kilometres from Kliphuis as well as The Poplars, all three of which can be rented simultaneously to accommodate larger groups.
The Karoo landscape has a definite magic about it so if you’re looking to disconnect from the world and completely unwind, then you’ll be happy right here.
