Situated in the heart of the Great Karoo with the Sneeuberg mountain range as its backdrop, Kliphuis is an idyllic Karoo escape only an hour from Graaff-Reinet.

Encompassing the essence of Karoo living, you will experience a taste of remote farm life in this barn-turned-farmhouse. Spend summers outside on the stoep, sharing meals around a beautiful stone table while you take in the amazing views. The seemingly endless stretch of landscape before you brings a sense of calm and tranquillity, allowing you to completely switch off.

You’re encouraged to open all the big wooden shutters each morning to allow the cool breeze to blow through the cottage, before closing them again in preparation for the intense heat that arrives by midday. Thankfully, the old stone floors and thick farmhouse walls ensure that the interiors stay cool, creating an oasis perfect for escaping the high temperatures. Pad around bare-feet in between lazing around in the afternoons. The days turn into long evenings filled with late dinners and plenty of star-gazing.

Wintertime brings warm, sunshine-filled days, ideal for exploring the outdoors, either hiking or cycling around the farm. Return in time to enjoy a filling lunch before taking an afternoon cat-nap. After feasting that evening, you can curl up by the roaring fire with a post-dinner glass of vino – the perfect end to another glorious day spent in the Karoo. Thick, fluffy sheepskin rugs coupled with underfloor heating mean that the farmhouse is kept nice and toasty.

The reed ceilings, wooden furniture, off-white linens and glass features give this space real character – it’s the perfect combination of modernity and farm charm. It makes for a very special place to leave the world behind and get some R&R – Karoo style.
