Situated within a malaria-free UNESCO Biosphere in the heart of Big Five wilderness, Makweti Safari Lodge offers an intimate bush experience that is timelessly African.
In an effort to preserve its exclusivity, the lodge caters to just 10 guests with five luxury suites blending beautifully into the magnificent safari landscape. Each of the suites has been designed to fit seamlessly into the bushveld environment and with total seclusion in mind. Warm African fabrics, textures and carefully selected pieces balance out cool, colonial-style linens to create inviting, romantic spaces. Wonderful views across the gorge-defined valley and to the blue hills beyond can also be enjoyed from each suite.
The panoramic surroundings are only interrupted by the famous, on-the-doorstep waterhole, teak decks overlooking the Makweti Gorge, the sparkling swimming pool, spa, bar and art gallery. The open lounge is the ideal spot to watch as the many free-roaming animals come down for a drink. There are no fences at Makweti, inviting the wildlife to move as it pleases, making it an exciting place to be for safari aficionados.
Food plays a huge part in making your stay a memorable one at Makweti. Only the finest, locally-sourced ingredients are used to prepare African-inspired dishes, with dinners being served in the candle-lit dining room. On clear, beautiful nights, the fireside boma provides the perfect dining spot to appreciate the starry African skies while enjoying a superb feast. A wine list that pays homage to some of the country’s best wine estates rounds out your culinary experience.
Connect with the lush bush surrounds and its abundant wildlife on open-vehicle game drives, with walking safaris also being available on request. Competent and knowledgeable guides lead the way, enhancing your animal encounters with interesting information and anecdotes. Unwind and relax with an indulgent massage at the spa, as the sounds of nature complement your experience.
