ABOUT Olakira Camp, Serengeti

The Olakira Migration Camp follows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park. Olakira’s nine tents each have a king-sized bed (twin beds are available) complete with rich linens, an under-cover veranda with a comfortable chaise lounge and an en-suite bathroom and dressing area with hot-water safari bucket showers and flushing toilets.

The mess and dining tents have panoramic views of the sprawling Serengeti plains and guests can spend the afternoon relaxing in an armchair in the mess area or get comfortable under the shade of the surrounding trees and simply watch the game pass by. As the seasons change, the wildebeest follow the rains in search of fresh grazing and water. As a result, twice a year the camp is relocated to a new prime spot that gives unparalleled access to superb viewing.

Olakira North (June to November)

The northern camp is situated in one of the most pristine corners of the Serengeti in the Bolongoja region of the northern plains. The camp is just 300 metres from a crossing point at the Mara River and offers one of the best migration viewing areas in the north.

Olakira South (December to March)

This camp is situated in a small shady forest east of the Ndutu area. In February, the plains throng with even more animals as wildebeest mothers give birth simultaneously. Officially in the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area), game drives cover both the NCA itself and the southern Serengeti, allowing for frequent sightings of big cats, elephant, buffalo and the more elusive African wild dog.

Guests at both these camps will enjoy game drives with expert top guides twice a day, bush breakfasts picnics and dinners for uninterrupted game viewing and cultural and community visits to nearby villages and communities. Hot-air balloon safaris are also available (at additional cost) for an unforgettable and romantic game-viewing experience.
