One and a half hours drive from Cape Town, in Toontjiesrivier, Penhill Manor at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountains, is one of the Cape’s most beautifully situated, original Cape Dutch farms. A stay at Penhill takes guests back to the elegant era of the brandy boom back in the late 1800s. During this time, one of its former owners, Jacobus Kloppers, started his brandy distillation business. This delightful, historic Manor House was built in 1840 and is a magnificent example of Cape Dutch architecture.
Today, the fully renovated, air-conditioned Manor House accommodates eight people in four bedrooms, with three bathrooms. Relax in the sitting room or at the swimming pool. Stay connected with free Wi-Fi, or unwind with DStv. Penhill has four cottages, Pepper Tree, built in 1750, is one of the oldest in the valley. Each cottage has two double bedrooms, TV, DVD player and DStv. The Fruit Barn and Pepper Tree have their own swimming pools each, and the West and East Grange have private jacuzzis. The farm can be exclusively booked.
Enjoy spending time sampling good food and fine wines, including Conradie Wines (soon to be Conradie-Penhill Wine) and craft beer made in the Nuy Valley. The Cellars is now the central eating and entertainment area for the farm, and can also be used for intimate conferences and functions. To its north is an outside seating area with views up to the tennis court and the mountains beyond. Catering can be arranged at an additional cost through an outsourced caterer.
