Founded in 1999, Schulphoek House offers understated luxury and Cape refinement to its guests. Fully renovated and expanded in 2017, nine spacious, modern and well -appointed sea-facing en-suite bedrooms were added, and combined with the six garden-facing rooms, each individually decorated, brings the total to 15.
Set on the protected Schulphoek Bay in Sandbaai, roughly 4 km from the centre of Hermanus, you’ll experience complete tranquillity here. The idyllic cove forms part of a protected reserve that is home to a variety of mammals, birds and marine life, particularly Southern Right whales that flock here during their annual calving season between late August and December.
Schulphoek House takes great pride in its cuisine and wine offering. All wines have been curated from the Hemel-en-Aarde region, while the dinner menu bursts with fresh and locally sourced ingredients that combine to create mouth-watering culinary creations. Dedicated gardeners produce small crops of baby vegetables and herbs for the kitchen.
Sustainable and eco-conscious building practices help to make the space a greener one, with solar power being used to run the entire property, a hydronic air conditioning system, a thermal water heating system, and extensive water harvesting storage – the house is holistically designed to be carbon neutral and bio-dynamic.
It’s the perfect time-out spot where relaxation is the goal. Spend the day unwinding alongside the heated salt-water pool or sip on a refreshing drink on the veranda as the sun goes down. Explore the many secluded beaches along the coast or discover the range of restaurants, shops and galleries in town. The famous cliff path provides gorgeous sea views and is an excellent way to appreciate the beauty of this place.
