On the afternoon of Day 3, you will be collected from the hotel for your scheduled City Tour – a geographical and cultural journey introducing you to the Mother City, from its historical beginnings to modern buildings and shopping centres. You will return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 4 will feature a full day Cape Point & Peninsula Tour – a breathtaking excursion that delivers spectacular views of the passing magnificent beaches and historic, picturesque coastal villages as you make your way to the high headland known as Cape Point. You’ll return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 5 is dedicated to exploring the unique magic of the Cape Winelands. The delightful drive winds its way to the heart of the wonderful area through incredible mountain ranges, endless vineyards and beautiful Cape Dutch homesteads. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon.
It’s time to bid Cape Town farewell and make your way along the well-known Route 62 to Barrydale for a spot of lunch. You’ll then continue on to Oudtshoorn, popularly referred to as the “feather capital” of the world, owing to its extensive ostrich farms. You will visit one of the working farms for a guided tour before checking into your accommodation for the night in the late afternoon followed by a delicious dinner.
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a morning tour of the Cango Caves, one of the natural wonders of the world. The gorgeous, lagoon-side town of Knysna will be your next stop – a real gem of the Garden Route. Potter around at the Knysna Waterfront before making your way to The Crags near Plettenberg Bay and enjoying an enlightening cruise up the Keurbooms River after which you will check into your accommodation for the next two nights.
On Day 8 get up-close-and-personal with the majestic creatures at the Elephant Sanctuary. You will have the chance to touch, feed and photograph these gentle giants – a truly special encounter. Following lunch you will travel to lovely Plettenberg Bay for a visit to Birds of Eden – the largest free-flight bird aviary in the world. The nearby town of Plettenberg Bay offers great swimming at a variety of beaches and well as a number of restaurants and cafés, ideal for an afternoon cuppa. Soak up the charm of this relaxing place.
The final leg of your Garden Route adventure will take you to the beautiful Tsitsikamma National Park. Described as the “garden of the Garden Route”, the Tsitsikamma Forest and National Park exudes a natural and raw beauty that is best experienced in person. Walking across the famous suspension bridge at the Storms River mouth gorge is a must, providing you with incredible views and photo opportunities. Arrive in Port Elizabeth at approximately 18h00.
After your overnight in Port Elizabeth, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight to Johannesburg. You will be met at O.R. Tambo International Airport before being transferred to your hotel for check in, followed by a Johannesburg City Tour later that afternoon. Explore the area close to City Hall, Newtown Cultural Precinct and the Maboneng Precinct, which has completely transformed the Market Theatre and surrounds. On the morning of Day 11 you’ll be treated to a tour of Soweto, the iconic place from which most of the struggle was fought against the injustices of the Apartheid regime. It is home to sites of historical importance and proves to be an exceptionally informative and eye-opening experience. Enjoy lunch followed by a visit to the Apartheid Museum.
On Day 12 you will leave the bright lights of Johannesburg behind and travel to the “Land of the Rising Sun”: Mpumalanga. Undeniably one of the country’s most naturally beautiful provinces, Mpumalanga has a rich history and culture, not to mention an abundance of diverse flora and fauna. It also contains approximately half of the Kruger National Park which explains why so many people visit the province, as well as its neighbouring Limpopo, since it hosts the balance of the Kruger. It’s in this part of the world where you’ll have some of the best big game viewing experiences available today.
You will travel via the spectacular Panorama Route, hopefully stopping at God’s Window (time and weather permitting) that looks out across the Blyde River Canyon – breathtaking! Freshen up after your late afternoon check in at your accommodation before dinner.
It’s safari time where you will enjoy two days of being treated like African royalty! You will be transferred to your African safari experience where both morning and evening game tracking drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles are on the menu. Navigating the bush in this way allows you to enjoy close contact with the famed Big Five and the other wildlife. Highly knowledgeable and experienced guides will also lead you on foot which will enable you to appreciate the smaller creatures and elements of the bush with its myriad of busy insects and dazzling birdlife. This will be nothing short of a memorable experience, one that will not soon be forgotten.
After a final early morning game viewing activity, you will return to camp for a last bush breakfast followed by check-out formalities. You will be collected and transferred to Hoedspruit OR Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport where the tour ends. Catch your return flight home via Johannesburg.
