Hot Air Balloon Flights

Soaring high in the sky, gliding soundlessly over golden savannahs cut through with winding blue ribbons, herds of matchstick animals galloping across the bushveld beneath you....this is what a hot air balloon safari feels like.

East Africa

In East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), your adventure begins before dawn, with flames from the balloon burners illuminating the darkness as the balloon inflates and rises upwards. As you hit your zenith in the rapidly lightening sky, the first rays of an African sunrise creep above the horizon like gossamer tentacles, gently bathing the bush in liquid gold. Suspended below the multi-coloured canopy, you feel frozen in space and time.

As the sun races upwards, you’re off on a thrilling wildlife viewing adventure, riding your magnificent craft over hills and valleys and racing above herds of Africa's most recognisable animals. Flights typically last an hour and then in time-honoured tradition of balloon flights the world over, you toast your return to earth with a champagne breakfast, cooked wherever you land.

Namibia

"Up, up and away" as you sail silently over a sea of red dunes in Namibia's Namib Desert. Again the flight starts as the sun rises, with the first light of day highlighting the rich contrast of colours across the towering sand dunes of the Sossusvlei region, the red sand glowing like copper fires. The hour-long flight takes in some of the most deserted and expansive landscapes in the world, inspiring awe at just how small we really are. Upon landing, you'll trade your personal highlights and pictures over a champagne breakfast.

South Africa

South Africa has a number of spectacular locations offering hot air balloon flights. The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site in Gauteng , the world's richest early human geological site, launches flights over the Magaliesberg Mountains. In the The Free State you can fly over the site of the largest meteor strike in Earth's history before sweeping down upon the picturesque mountain town of Clarens, South Africa's answer to an Alpine village. Balloons fly over the breathtaking central and southern Drakensberg Mountains and Tala Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, and in the Northern Cape you can take flight over the Kalahari desert and Augrabies National Park between April and October. If you're only visiting Cape Town this time we have options for you here as well, or we can combine your Kruger safari with a scenic flight over the Mpumalanga escarpment and the panoramic Lowveld.

Ballooning is strictly weather permitting and some sites are more likely to have regular launches than others. Get in touch with us and we'll help you plan a balloon flight that fits your itinerary.
