Toka Leya Camp
12km from Vic Falls lies Toka Leya, consisting of 12 spacious en-suite safari tents divided by wooden walkways that snake through the riverine forests. Private patios face out onto the rushing Zambezi River.
This fully escorted tour of Botswana is reminiscent of the days of the great African explorers. On this adventure, you’ll take in Victoria Falls from the Zambian side of the Zambezi and explore the scenic northern part of Botswana – from the waterways of the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti and Chobe Rivers, both known for their high concentrations of game, including the Big Five.
As with all our tours, this itinerary is just an example of what we can put together for you – all our tours are tailor-made according to your preferences, budget and travel dates.
Depart from Johannesburg airport for Livingstone, where you will be met by your guides and transferred directly to Victoria Falls for a guided tour. Your jam-packed first day then includes a road transfer to Toka Leya Camp in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where you will spend the night.
You’ll fly to Kasane, a small town known as the gateway to Chobe, and embark on a Chobe River boat cruise. Chobe is renowned for its extensive herds of elephant, many of which you will see as you slowly make your way upriver. A light lunch will be served on board as you enjoy the game watching.
An early flight takes you to Linyanti tented camp, a deluxe campsite in the Linyanti Concession. Your guides will take you on a game drive to the private northern area of the concession which borders the Linyanti River. Here you’ll see a variety of wildlife making their way to the river’s edge to quench their thirst. You’ll spend two nights here at full board and enjoy the inclusive day and night game drives.
You’ll be transferred by air to Gomoti Tented Camp, a luxury camp in the heart of the Santawani Concession in the south-east corner of the Okavango Delta. Named after a local tree known as the water fig, Gomoti is an exclusive, well-kept secret where you’ll enjoy 2 nights’ accommodation at full board, with a range of game viewing activities including walking safaris. You can also choose from daily morning excursions in the traditional dugout mokoro or longer trips to explore more of the surrounding waterways.
You’ll fly to Moremi Game Reserve, previously voted best game reserve in Africa by the African Travel & Tourism Association. You’ll spend 2 nights at Xigera (pronounced Kee-jera) Camp located on Paradise Island in a remote area of the reserve. Surrounded by lush vegetation and riverine forests, this is the heart of the Delta. Your two nights here will be spent overlooking the vast floodplains as you enjoy a drink in the bar or dining area, trying to spot the elusive sitatunga antelope (this is the place you’re most likely to find them). Safari options include mokoros, boats and walking trips. You may even get lucky and spot a lion or leopard using the footbridge that connects Xigera to the next island.
It’s a sad farewell to your Victoria Falls and Botswana adventure as you’re transferred by light aircraft to Maun airport – but we can easily connect this tour to any of our other itineraries for an extended holiday.
