Fly-In Kruger Safari

This itinerary is an indication of what we can do, however all our tours are tailored by our travel experts according to your preferences, travel dates and budget.

Easily accessible from Johannesburg, with direct flights to many of the private lodge Airstrips, you can be met by your ranger off your plane, and transferred directly to the lodge in the seclusion of the African bushveld just a two hours after leaving the hustle of busy Johannesburg. This is a perfect escape, and this itinerary highlights the luxury of the private reserves and the afforded opportunity of being able to get close to the big five for the most spectacular photographic safaris.

Day 1

You will be met upon arrival at Johannesburg airport, and transferred to the Federal Air charter lounge for your flight to the Kruger. All passengers can check-in at the lounge, repack and store excess baggage if necessary, and have direct boarding access to all the aircraft.

Upon arrival at the Lodge airstrip, you will be met by your ranger and transferred directly to your lodge for check in and freshen up.

What to Expect on Safari:

You will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch, and will then have some time to relax and soak up the splendour of your surrounds before your evening game drive.

As the afternoon comes to an end, and the bushveld heat starts to ease, guests and rangers meet for afternoon tea before departing on your evening Game Drive. Then it’s Safari Time!

You will head out on your evening Game Drive for the day just before sunset. You will be able to catch the last of the day wonderers before stopping to enjoy the sunset in a bush clearing or vantage point on your drive, with a sundowner to allow you sometime to stretch your legs. As the sky gets dark, you continue on your game drive into the night. The nocturnal animals get ready for their hunting. Your ranger will be driving the vehicle and the tracker is up front looking out for tracks and spotting the animals, with the use a powerful spotlight to catch sight of the animals. The animal’s eyes reflect in the spot light and the ranger and tracker will concentrate on finding the nocturnal animals such as Leopards and sunset hunters such as Lions.

The timing of dinner is determined by the activities on safari. If there are things happening and lions hunting – your dinner will wait. You will have a chance to freshen up upon your return to the lodge before dinner.

At most lodges, there are a number of places to enjoy dinner at the lodge and weather dependant the camp manager will select the perfect venue. Your ranger usually joins you for dinner and the camp fire stories have been known to continue into the night.

Your wakeup call in the morning is usually between 05h30 and 06h00 depending on the season, to meet your ranger and tracker for early morning tea and coffee before heading out on safari, in an open 4X4 safari vehicles again. It’s an exciting time of the day, and the anticipation is high as to what you might spot while out on you game drive – A pack of lions ravaging a fresh kill, a breeding herd of elephants drinking at a waterhole, or a shy giraffe quietly munching on the tall trees on the horizon of the open bushveld? You never know!

Safari vehicles start returning back to the lodge after your game drive just in time to enjoy a sumptuous and well-earned breakfast. Depending on the season and the rules of the reserve, many lodges offer a Safari Walk with an armed tracker. This gives you a chance to concentrate on the smaller wonders of the bush, such as insects and birds.

Otherwise, you will have a chance to relax and unwind (it is a holiday after all!) or enjoy a swim to cool down from the relentless African heat.
