Western Cape Highlights

This itinerary is an example of exploring the Western Cape, however all our tours are fully customisable and are tailored by our travel consultants according to your preferences.

This package is ideal for the returning traveller who is keen for a little self-exploring to places slightly off the beaten track. This time around, we suggest staying somewhere a little different. Since the Cape’s West Coast is a treasure trove of quaint seaside towns dotted along the famed Atlantic coastline, it offers you the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and get a taste of the “slow life”. As you make your way to the Northern Cape, you will also experience the majesty of the Cederberg Mountains, the Karoo charm of Calvinia and of course, the splendour of the wild flowers of Namaqualand, all before ending off with a sampling of the magic of the Winelands. A treat for nature-lovers and those looking for a little adventure that’s a little off the map.

Day 1 - 3: Cape Town

Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will collect your rental vehicle and drive to your first destination: the Southern Cape Peninsular. Simon’s Town is a popular option with its sea-facing bed & breakfast accommodation options, beloved tourist attractions such as Boulders Beach Penguin Colony and array of fun activities for young and old. From your base, it’s also easy to explore the many wonders of Cape Town itself, from Table Mountain to Robben Island and all the gems of the Cape Peninsular as a whole. And at the end of the day, you get to return to the charm of your picturesque seaside town.

Day 4 – 6: Paternoster

After a leisurely breakfast, leave the city behind and drive yourself to the unspoiled fishing village of Paternoster on the West Coast. An untouched, sandy-white beach stretches for miles, beckoning you to immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquillity of your natural surrounds, and simply forget all your worries. Enjoy leisurely beach walks, some of the finest restaurants and a laid-back atmosphere that will calm and rejuvenate you.

Paternoster Manor

Nestled in Bek Bay, this elegant guest house features rooms with private patios just over a hundred feet from the beach, so you can enjoy the quaint fishing village from a sumptuous yet comfortable base.

Day 7 – 9: Cederberg

It’s time to bid farewell to the ocean but say hello to the mountains! Check out and head to your next stop, the majestic Cederberg. This area boasts breathtaking mountains and a beautiful nature reserve teeming with a variety of animals (including meerkat, large antelope such as gemsbok, caracal and various reptiles and birds). Named after the endangered and endemic Clanwilliam cedar, the Cederberg is also home to a number of San rock art sites that provide a glimpse into life long ago. Rock climbing and hiking are two other activities for which the area is well known.

Day 10 – 12: Namaqualand

If it’s blooms you came to see, then the next destination will deliver beyond your wildest expectations. Namaqualand is renowned for its incredible array of flowers, with people travelling from near and far to witness the usually arid region come alive from the kaleidoscope of colour during flower season. Springbok will be your base and it’s during your stay here when nature at its best will delight you at every turn.

Day 13 – 15: Great Karoo

Next you’ll move on to Calvinia for some Hantam hospitality and a taste of the Great Karoo. Here, you’ll enjoy starry skies (the town gets 80% starlight) and the company of the famous quiver trees, not to mention a different take on the flower extravaganza. Once again, nature lovers will be in their element and avid photographers will soak up the opportunity to capture some of the most splendid natural surroundings in the world.

Day 16 – 18: Winelands region

After the peace and tranquillity of your nature retreat, you’ll head back towards “civilisation” to spend some time discovering the lesser known Winelands areas, such as Wellington and Somerset West. The sweet vineyard air along with the endless ripple of mountains and countless wine farms will ensure you end your holiday on a high.

Day 19: Return to Cape Town for departure

Refreshed and content after a wonderful break, following breakfast you’ll make your way back to the airport where you will return your rental car before catching your flight back home.
