Robertson travel guide
Robertson is one of those small, charming towns on Route 62 in the lush Breede River Valley that this region of the Western Cape seems to do really well.
This country town is located in the shadow of the majestic Langeberg Mountains and has the Breede River as a prominent feature flowing through it. Just 1.5 hours from Cape Town, it lies at the start of the Heart of Route 62, South Africa's answer to America's Route 66.
Robertson was established 150 years ago and today is a most attractive town with Victorian architecture, jacaranda lined streets and numerous vineyards that produce some of the country's best wines.
Whether you're just spending the night or making holiday of your time in Robertson, there's much to see and enjoy here.
Thanks goes to the Robertson Small Hotel who provided the information for this Robertson to-do list.
Boating: A top draw card for visitors to Robertson is the Viljoensdrift Boat Cruise on the Breederiver. If you want more hands on water fun try out river rafting down the Breede River - suitable for the whole family.
Robertson Wine: The region is renowned for many excellent wines. Robertson Small Hotel picked out Excelsior Wine Estate as their favourite for cellar tours and the chance to blend your own wine.
Family fun: Head to Birds Paradise for a day out with the kids that will be fun, educational and relaxing for all.
Robertson festivals and events: This town is home to a number of wonderful, popular festivals including the Wacky Wine Weekend, Hands on Harvest Festival, Robertson Slow Festival and Wine on the River Festival. Wine and food are clearly the main ingredient in all of these events but they also offer plenty of entertainment.
Shop in Robertson: Look out for the wonderful SPACES centre - a friendly, funky deli, clothing and decor store. Want to invest in some local art? Robertson's Art Gallery is the ideal place to start.
Outward bound: Apart from many walking and hiking trails in the Robertson countryside, there are also MTB trails and events, and the wonderful Soekershof succulent garden with its amazing mazes which make a wonderful peaceful place to spend a quiet afternoon.
