Melkbos to Milnerton
More commonly known as Melkbos, Melkbosstrand gets its name from the species of milkwood (euphorbia) which once grew in profusion in the region. Enjoy awesome Table Mountain views and fine fishing from the wide, white beach where numerous watersports are on offer.
Blouberg means "Blue mountain" and is derived from the earlier Dutch name "Blaauwberg" still sometimes used today. The name, which was used as far back as 200 years ago, was given due to the blue hue of the mountains as seen from the decks of the approaching ships. Once the site of the famous Battle of Blouberg in 1806 (6654 British soldiers easily defeating 2000 mercenaries mostly from Germany and Austria) today this is a prime coastal resort offering the most famous view of Table Mountain as seen on many thousands of postcards around the world. Sunset Beach is a popular suburb of Blouberg.
If you’re a shopper, head for Century City and Canal Walk – both ultra-shopping experiences that draw crowds and credit cards from across the city. Milnerton also has appealing views from the beach and is just 11 km from the bustling centre of Cape Town CBD and the Waterfront.
