Harfield Guest Villa: A Southern Suburbs gem

Portfolio’s always smiling and up-beat reservations specialist Angelo spent a night at Harfield Guest Villa, situated in Claremont’s vibrant Harfield Village. We asked him a few things about his stay – and here’s what he had to say.


Portfolio: What were your first impressions upon arrival? What stood out for you?

Angelo: The warm welcome we received was amazing. The friendly, hands-on team greeted us with big smiles and made it their mission, right from the start, to make our stay a hassle-free and enjoyable one.

The deceptive size of Harfield Guest Villa was the real wow factor for me. From the front of the establishment it seems small, but once you take a walk through the doors, you see there’s a whole new world behind them waiting to welcome you. The design and rustic touches give it that warm cottage feel and whilst it’s perfectly delightful all year round, it must be especially cosy with the fire lit during the winter.


P: Describe the setting, the surrounds and of course, the rooms.

A: The genuinely intimate atmosphere is felt almost immediately with each of the rooms being more like little houses – spaces that make you feel comfortable and right at home. Each one has everything you could dream of for a relaxed stay, from a TV, to a minibar, hospitality tray, pure cotton linen and WiFi. The character of quaint Harfield Village adds to Harfield’s overall charm, with the beautiful setting featuring Table Mountain in all its glory, making it a peaceful haven where you can get away from it all.


P: Tell us about the location?

A: The position of Harfield is so convenient - it’s a street away from the well-known restaurants of 2nd Avenue and just a five minute walk to the train station, just in case you feel like taking a scenic train drive down to Simons Town during your stay. You’re also able to get to the Newlands sports grounds quite easily, something that is particularly useful if you’re in town for a sporting event. The city centre, V&A Waterfront, stunning beaches and Cape Town International Airport are all an easy 15 to 20 minute drive away.


P: What was the most memorable part of your visit? What would you tell your friends were the highlights?

A: We simply loved the warm welcome we received, the relaxing atmosphere and our homely cottage (and with its own entrance it meant we could come and go as we pleased in complete privacy – an added bonus). The close proximity to a range of fantastic restaurants was also something we really enjoyed, and the pool deck is the perfect place to kick back and relax in the sunshine. Oh and I can't not mention the scrumptious breakfasts - YUM!


P: Which restaurants would you recommend in and around the area?

A: There are so many places to choose from, all serving a variety of different and delicious cuisines, but my picks are:

  • Fat Harry’s: Order the Long Island Iced Tea and their three cheese beef burger – a winning combo!
  • Banana Jam: They make killer cocktails and I really love their classic cob salad.
  • Zapata Mexican Restaurant: Their chili poppers with bacon are to die for.


P: Who would you say Harfield Guest Villa appeals to most?

A: For those looking for a peaceful escape yet one that isn’t too far out of the mix but is still like a home away from home, Harfield Guest Villa is for you. Owner Graham also said that he loves hosting rugby and cricket fans from overseas. The establishment is ideal for those people visiting for sports events because of its close proximity to the grounds, as I already mentioned.


P: What is the main thing guests can expect from a stay?

A: You’ll experience relaxation at its best in the ‘burbs, a friendly welcome and a comfortable stay on the doorstep of Harfield Village.
