Every artist will at some stage be inspired by the views from their studio windows.
Artist Marie Theron
has settled on the West Coast
after a long career in teaching, lecturing in watercolours at the Bellville Art Centre
, illustrating stationery and books and holding solo exhibitions, both locally and abroad.
From her studio she looks out onto Table Mountain
, the displays of spring flowers and the rows of salted snoek drying in the sea breeze. She became aware of the true West Coast
, a neglected subject among artists who take shortcuts with the staid formula of idealized ‘west coast cottages’.
In April 2009 she started a personal journey, documenting in paint every interesting aspect of this beloved area.
