Seven newly refurbished Portfolio places that’ll knock your socks off

Because we’re all about bringing you the very best in luxury stays, you’ve come to expect nothing less than amazing places. In fact, it’s hard to imagine how some of our establishments could possibly get any better. But there’s always room for improvement and with a few renovations and refurbishments, a place can graduate from just fantastic to simply fabulous. Check out these seven places that have had a spruce up in the last few months - prepare to be blown away!

Galenia

Following a four month closure, Galenia (formerly Les Hauts de Montagu) has recently re-opened its doors, much to the delight of guests travelling through picturesque Montagu. Nestled on the slopes of the Langeberg Mountains, the beautifully revamped Estate House is the perfect mix of Cape Dutch charm and contemporary elegance, with the intention of the redesign being to elevate it from just a classic B&B, to an estate house with real presence.

Delightful additions:

  • Newly refurbished suites and main house.
  • New glass-enclosed dining veranda with stunning views.
  • Candle-lit dinners and amazing lunch platters.

Garden Route Game Lodge

The latest edition to the Garden Route Game Lodge accommodation portfolio are the gorgeous Sunset Ridge Luxury Rooms. Perfectly perched on top of a small ridge, these luxury free-standing rooms offer 180 degree views of the game reserve, so you can just imagine how breath-taking the sunsets are! The modern design is softened by the use of locally sourced natural stone and locally harvested blue gum poles and latte. Trust us when we say it'll be hard to leave.

Something special:

  • Access to the five new exclusive chalets is via private golf cart transfer from reception by your game ranger.
  • Spacious decks allow you to drink in those ridiculous views.
  • Three of the chalets are family units perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
  • Languish under the African sky in the outside Victorian bath or indulge in a refreshing splash in the outdoor shower - BLISS.

Lanzerac Hotel & Spa

Just in time for summer, the iconic Lanzerac Hotel & Spa has completed its guest room and wine-tasting facilities makeover. The spa is also under construction, hopefully opening its grand doors at the end of 2016. With next-level luxury being the order of the day, this heritage landmark on the outskirts of charming Stellenbosch is surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges, hectares of manicured gardens and miles of verdant vineyards. The past collides with the present in an eclectic mix of décor, furniture and design - it's simply sumptuous.

Effortless luxury:

  • The newly renovated suites are super spacious and exude lavish splendour.
  • Expect all the 5-Star trimmings including rain showers, Victorian baths, multi-media entertainment systems, private terraces, Nespresso coffee machines and three-tier mini bars.
  • The pool area has also been refurbished, offering you a tranquil relaxation area. The Pool Bar boasts a tasty snack menu and delicious cocktails – the perfect summer hang-out!

Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge

After months of transformation, Nambiti Hills finally revealed the magic that had taken place. The design brief had you in mind, with the goal being to create even more relaxation and luxury, while still offering a unique 5-Star escape that would leave people speechless. And the result? Beautiful new outdoor spaces that allow you to truly take in the African beauty around you and produce an enhanced experience of the wild outdoors.

Magical outdoor spaces:

  • New heated swimming pool delivering year-round leisure.
  • New spacious deck and outdoor lounge area that delivers panoramic beauty as far as the eye can see - tanning with a view takes on a whole new meaning.

Stay in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Robertson Small Hotel

This beautiful hotel’s recent re-design saw a number of different designers collaborating to produce a brand new and stylish look for this already stunning establishment. The Victorian Manor House Rooms as well as the Stable, Poolside Suites, Wellness Room and the ample gardens were all worked on, with bespoke touches being added to the already award-winning facilities. Every space delivers a feast for the eyes and we love the contemporary feel perfectly complemented by that familiar Winelands charm.

Freshness and creativity:

  • Fashion designer and textile artist Alexis Barrell drew inspiration from local flora and fauna to design a range of textile works using techniques such as hand block printing as well as the intricate process of carving sketches into wood and printing on cotton with natural dyes by hand - WOW.
  • The Small Restaurant has also been given some newness in the form of a fresh new menu.
  • The Em Bar boasts a custom-designed bar in blue and white porcelain by artist Michael Chandler – it’s a beauty.

Stay in Robertson.

Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge

The revamp of the main lodge took place back in May with an impressive group of interior and décor gurus weaving their magic to take Madikwe Hills to a whole new level of amazingness. The hard work paid off with contemporary touches mingling with authentic game lodge finishes to produce spaces that are modern, calming and inviting. Neutral tones mesh perfectly with interesting textures, bringing a feel of contemporary-meets-the-bush – and we can't get enough of it.

A few tweaks can make all the difference:

  • The bar, lounge areas and dining space were all spruced up to up the level of luxury, tranquillity and comfort.
  • The dining-room received new flooring, a brand-new buffet station and new full-length glass doors and windows (meaning more light and effortless view admiring).
  • Basil's Bar has a new counter, whilst the lounge has new and colourful furnishings and artwork additions.
  • The pool has been resurfaced and repainted, as have the tennis courts.
  • Many of the thatched roofs have been restored.
  • The flagship double-story honeymoon bungalow (number 47) looks like new, as do the Emlonyei bungalows and the three adjacent honeymoon suites.
  • Wider decks have been added, giving you more space to soak up the sun (yes please).

Stay in Madikwe Game Reserve.

Umngazi River Bungalows and Spa

Needing to completely renovate and upgrade the main kitchen, Umngazi decided to use the six weeks of closure to their full advantage. A number of bungalows were given make-overs (30 out of the 69!) too, as was the dining-room, spa and the lounges. Of course the kitchen was kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment and new floors turning it into an ultra-modern space. Expect to be blown away by the many changes – it’s like a completely different Umngazi!

So much newness:

  • The dining-room received new flooring, a brand-new buffet station and new full-length glass doors and windows (meaning more light and effortless view admiring).
  • Basils’ Bar has a new counter whilst the lounge has new and colourful furnishings and artwork additions.
  • The pool has been resurfaced and repainted, as has the tennis courts.
  • Many of the thatched roofs have been restored.
  • The flagship double-story honeymoon bungalow (number 47) looks like new, as do the Emlonyei bungalows and the three adjacent honeymoon suites.
