Things to do over Easter 2020 and the school holidays

The first school holidays of 2020 are around the corner (20 – 31 March), as is the Easter break shortly after that (10-13 April), and with them come days waiting to be filled with exciting activities. Easter especially is a time of year when lots is happening so in a bid to ensure you have plenty in the arsenal to keep the kiddies occupied, we’ve compiled a concise list of happenings across the three main cities for this time of year. Happy vacay to us all!

CAPE TOWN

The Langebaan Easter Market

Hop on down to the Langebaan Town Hall in and celebrate Easter Cape West Coast style at the annual Easter market. Nestled in the heart of picturesque Langebaan, Main Beach, you will find the Town Hall (cnr Bree and Suffren Streets) where up to 60 stands will be waiting for you to enjoy. From crafts to clothes and food, it’s a great way to get out for the day with the entire family. Entry is free and you can shop between 10am and 3pm, but get there early before things sell out. When: Saturday, 11 April 2020.

Golden Easter egg hunt

On the Saturday before Easter (2 April 2020), you can enroll your kids in the Golden Easter Egg Hunt at the Kenilworth Racecourse. Toddlers, ages three to six, and “juniors,” aged seven through 11, will have separate hunts, ensuring kids of all ages are able to enjoy. There will also be face painting, inflatable castles and other fun activities - again, fun for the whole family!

Lindt Gold Bunny Maze (V&A Waterfront)

Also in Cape Town, kids (and adults!) can make their way through the Lindt Gold Bunny Maze at the V and A Waterfront. Look for hidden chocolates, do sand art, papier Mache crafts, or spend time at the petting zoo. You’ll even be able to get your face painted. And afterwards, you can do a spot of shopping and perhaps even grab a bite to eat. The V&A Waterfront often has special programmes for children during the school holidays so be sure to keep your eyes open for the details.

Easter extravaganza at the Galileo Open-Air Cinema

Head down to Meerendal Estate on Sunday 12 April from 4pm to the Galileo Open-Air Cinema where there will be a screening of "Wonder Park"on the massive outdoor screen. there will also be plenty of fun activities to enjoy, including an Easter egg hunt, face-painting, jumping castles, games and more. Childminders will be available to keep an eye on the kids while parents check out the food market and relax on the lawn. Entry is free for kids under 10, otherwise tickets cost R170

Easter Circus Shows (Montague Gardens)

Now this is what we consider some good and proper Easter fun and entertainment. On Sunday, 12 April and Monday, 13 April 2020 you are invited to come watch The Silk Workshop's talented artists performing in a live circus show, including an Easter egg hunt with the Easter Bunny for the children. The circus show will start at 3.30pm but before that at 3pm, there’ll be the Easter egg hunt. Tickets for adults cost R100 and R80 for kids.

Address: The Silk Workshop, Unit 11 Prema Park, 12 Engine Road, Montague Gardens.
